Hey folks, Anyone use a 25.6 scale on steel strings? What do you use for the compensation factor? |

I just used a 25.7 scale on a guitar I built for my son...his 33rd birthday present. A BIG surprise. I set my bridge/saddle so that I had 25.75 on the high E (1st string)and the thing came out nearly on the money. It was off minutely on the 12th fret harmonic/fretted string test. Had to see it on a tuner...almost impossible to hear (with my 60 year old ears). Figured I let him play it for a few months, let it take a "set" then do a fine tune set up with saddle ramping as needed. Buy the way, I build my bridges with a 5 degree saddle angle (1st string back to 6th string. Hope that offers some insight. |

I have seen this guitar while being built and it is very nice. It has snakewood bindings if I remember correctly. Got any pics of that guitar Hank. |

No pics at this time...got it finished a week ago last Monday and took it to him, in Oregon, a week ago. A bit of a rush for pics. It was old Braz rosewood (from my stash)/Englemann, with snakewood bindings and end graft, ebony bridge and fingerboard with a Braz headstock. Also a K&K Pure Western system. Needless to say he was surprised! |

Thanks Hank, so to get this right, you used 0.05" comp on the high e string and a standard compensation on the low e? My layout has 0.045" on the high e and 0.150" on the low e. Hope this works out. I think it should Anyone else have some input. |

Yes. The high E scale is 25.7". I set the face of the saddle at 25.75". My low E (and the rest of the strings) fall into their compensated length due to the 5 degree backset of the saddle slot. I don't know exactly what that measures out to, but it works for me once the high E length is set. Next time I place a 25.7" scale bridge, I'll take the measurements on ALL the strings and post them for the good of the order. |
